Why rent a chalet in Mont-Tremblant

Tremblant is a self-catering destination. Ski days start early and end tired, and a chalet or condo with a full kitchen, a drying room for gear, a fireplace, and often a hot tub is what makes a week here work. Village restaurants are good but priced for a resort, so cooking a few dinners saves real money.

Groups gain the most. Four to twelve person chalets split down to less per person than two hotel rooms, and everyone gets a bedroom, a bathroom, and a place to sit by the fire afterwards.

Best areas to stay

If skiing is the whole point, book the pedestrian village or true ski-in ski-out condos so you can reach the gondola on foot. Families with young children benefit most from this: no shuttles, no parking, no carrying skis.

Budget-conscious and summer visitors do better in the Vieux Village, Saint-Jovite, or on Lac Tremblant and Lac Supérieur, where chalets are larger, quieter, and cheaper, at the cost of a short daily drive.

Skiing and snowboarding

Tremblant runs more than 100 trails across four mountain sides, with a vertical drop of about 645 metres and extensive snowmaking. The North Side holds the best snow, Versant Soleil catches the sun, and the South Side is where beginners and ski school spend their days.

Buy lift tickets online in advance for weekday savings, and confirm whether your rental includes a ski locker or storage. Rental shops in the village handle gear and boot fitting, but book fittings ahead over the holidays.

Summer and off-season activities

From June to October the resort turns into a hiking and biking base. The gondola runs to the summit trails, the Vélo Nord bike park opens, and the P tit Train du Nord rail trail runs for hundreds of kilometres through the Laurentians.

Lakes are the other half of summer: swimming and paddleboarding on Lac Tremblant, beaches on Lac Mercier, and canoe routes in nearby Mont-Tremblant National Park. Autumn brings some of the best foliage in Eastern Canada.

Condos usually include heating, parking, and access to shared pools and saunas. Chalets give more space and privacy but often sit on steep private drives that need winter tyres or all-wheel drive.

Best seasons to visit

Peak ski weeks are the Christmas and New Year holidays, Quebec spring break in early March, and Presidents Day week, when chalets book six months to a year ahead and rates roughly double.

January and February deliver the most reliable snow at fairer prices. July and August are warm and family-friendly, while May, June, and November are the cheapest weeks of the year, with quiet trails and mud-season conditions.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice for anything outside the pedestrian village. Winter tyres are legally required in Quebec from December through mid-March, and rental cars from Montreal include them, but confirm at pickup.

Inside the resort, free shuttles connect the village to slopeside parking and nearby condo clusters, and the cabriolet lift links the lower and upper village so you can leave the car parked for days.

Travel and booking tips

Book winter holiday weeks eight to twelve months ahead, and ask specifically whether the walk to the lifts is described as ski-in or as a shuttle ride: the phrasing varies a lot between listings.

Confirm heating type and firewood, whether the driveway is plowed, hot tub cleaning schedules, and how many parking spots come with the rental. In summer, ask about screens, air conditioning, and lake access rights.
