Sayulita is a small Pacific surf town north of Puerto Vallarta: cobbled streets, papel picado overhead, beginner waves out front, and a rental market of jungle villas and walk-to-the-beach houses.

November to April for dry, sunny weather; May, June, October for lower rates and warm surf.
Common rental types

Getting there
Fly into Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and drive or shuttle about 45 minutes north on Highway 200. Private shuttles, colectivo vans, and the Compostela bus all serve Sayulita. Town streets are narrow, steep, and cobbled, so many visitors skip a car and walk.

Where to stay in Sayulita
Town centre & the plaza
Restaurants, surf shops, and taco stands around the zócalo. Casitas here mean no car and no walking hills, but expect music until late.
Sayulita Beach (Playa Sayulita)
The main surf beach with rentals, palapas, and beginner lessons. Beachfront houses here are the most in demand in town.
Gringo Hill (Cerro del Muerto)
Steep streets above the south end with the best views and quieter nights. Bring good shoes: the climb is real.
North Side & Playa de los Muertos
Short walk through the cemetery gate to a calm swimming cove. Family-friendly villas with pools sit on these lanes.
Jungle hillsides & Sayulita Central
Villas set back in the greenery with private pools, five to fifteen minutes walk from the sand. Best value per bedroom.
Playa Carricitos & the south coast
Secluded houses above wilder beaches. Peaceful and private; a golf cart or car is useful.
San Pancho (San Francisco)
Quieter neighbouring town six kilometres north with wide streets, better swimming, and calmer nightlife.
Punta Mita & Higuera Blanca
Upscale villas and gated resorts 20 minutes south, for travellers who want polish over surf-town scruff.
