Getting there
Fly into Cancún (CUN) and drive or shuttle about 80 minutes south on Highway 307. Private transfers and ADO buses both serve Akumal, and Playa del Carmen is 25 minutes north, Tulum 20 minutes south. A car is useful for cenotes and grocery runs but not essential.

Where to stay in Akumal
Half Moon Bay
The longest stretch of rental condos and villas, on a curved rocky-and-sand shoreline with excellent snorkeling straight off the beach.
Akumal Bay (main beach)
The turtle bay itself: calm, shallow, and protected. Rentals are limited and premium, but you are steps from the water.
Akumal Norte & Jade Bay
Quieter northern end with newer condo buildings, pools, and short walks to the reef. Popular with couples and long stays.
Yal-ku Lagoon area
Near the brackish lagoon snorkel park at the north end of Half Moon Bay. Calm water, lots of fish, few crowds.
Aventuras Akumal
Gated residential enclave just north with larger private villas, pools, and quiet beaches. Best for groups wanting privacy.
Akumal Pueblo
The inland village across the highway, where local shops, taquerías, and cheaper long-stay rentals are.
South Akumal
Gated villa community with sandy beaches and calm swimming, ideal for families who want a house rather than a condo.
Soliman & Tankah Bays
Fifteen minutes south toward Tulum, with secluded beach houses on wide, quiet bays and easy cenote access.
